Research and Writing

My current project explores the building of monuments that commemorated the American Revolution and its participants through the first hundred years of U.S. independence. I examine the tensions between official, national efforts to memorialize the Revolution and the parochial commemorative needs that actually produced the first American monuments. The project is now under peer review–I will post an update once it is more finalized and on its way to publication.
